Deformometry — Deformation Monitoring of Building Structures

Deformation measurement methods and tools: quartz deformometers, strain gauge sensors, embedded sensors

A deformometer is a device used to measure small changes in the length of individual structural parts or distances between two marked points. In massive bridge supports, columns, and other structures, deformometers are used to measure microcrack opening, elastic material deformations, etc.

DK200 Quartz Deformometer

The DK200 overlay quartz deformometer (suspended automatic extensometer) is used as part of structural health monitoring systems.

Operating Principle

The quartz deformometer is based on the change in oscillation frequency of a quartz wire when its length changes. The quartz wire is stretched between two points of the structure, and when the distance between them changes, the wire oscillation frequency changes, which is measured with high accuracy.

Applications

  • Crack opening control in concrete and reinforced concrete structures
  • Bridge support deformation measurement
  • Building column and wall deformation monitoring
  • Dam and hydraulic structure deformation control
